Pioneer Thiru S. Kumaraswamy is a part of our local history and has a definite place in the history of Tamil Nadu. By sheer dint of hard work, devotion, dedication, discipline and diligence, he emerged as a well known industrialist and entrepreneur in South Tamil Nadu. He successfully launched innovative enterprises in transport, electricity, agriculture, textiles and technical education. He was a true patriot and he trained technical man power to the Indian Army during 2nd world war. As the Principal of his own ITI, he provided 250 mechanics per month to the war field. His entrepreneurial vision was a great blessing and source of livelihood to thousands of people below the poverty line in Kanyakumari District. He provided vast employment opportunities to the young people. The epic life of Kumaraswamy is story of rags to riches. His entire life is a perfect model and source of inspiration to younger generation.

With a view to perpetuating the memory of The Great Pioneer, S. Kumaraswamy, Dr. K. Padmanabhan and Mrs. K. Bhagavathi Ammal Padmanabhan founded Pioneer Kumaraswamy College in the year 1967. The college achieved brilliant results within a short period of ten years and created history of winning the Rolling Shield instituted by the Government of Tamil Nadu for three consecutive years for meritorical results in the Pre – University Examinations. The college bagged several gold medals in Degree Examinations also. The College used to send a large army of young people to medical colleges, engineering colleges, agricultural colleges, dental colleges and other professional colleges during those years. The college continues to offer value based quality higher education to all sections of society and contribute to the human resource development of Southern Peninsula of India.

Vikram Kumaraswamy, grandson of Dr. K. Padmanabhan, is now opening this Pioneer Academy thereby opening new avenues in the field of education for students in this district for entry into Civil Services.
